The NBA unveiled this year’s Christmas Day uniforms on Friday morning with an official press release and, yup, they’re pretty much the exact same designs that leaked earlier this year.

From the release:

adidas and the NBA today unveiled the uniforms that all teams will wear during the league’s Christmas Day match-ups. Designed as part of the adidas NBA Season’s Greetings Collection, the uniforms continue the tradition of introducing new and unique elements each season. This year’s uniforms incorporate primary team colors and cream tones, while player names and numbers are showcased in holiday-style script and detailed with woven rows of stitching. A scarlet NBA seal is also displayed on the back of the jersey as a nod to holiday greeting cards.

The socks, Stance’s contribution to the on-court Christmas Day look, mirror the uniform’s design and feature classic holiday colors, winter-inspired imagery and pay homage to holiday sweaters.

The flat, primary/cream color-scheme give the jerseys a retro look, while the holiday script is a pretty awesome touch. Each of the jerseys look very similar in style, but they incorporate small elements of each team’s regular uniforms – such as collar styles or striping – to make each unique. Some of them work better than others, so I’ve gone ahead and ranked them.

Regardless of whether we agree or disagree on the jersey rankings, there should be no debate that the socks are the best part.

10. New Orleans Pelicans

The Pelicans and Clippers have the worst base uniforms to work off of from the group, so it shouldn’t be too surprising that they land at the bottom of the list. The dark navy doesn’t translate great to a holiday uniform and it just feels weird to see the Pelicans using a retro-style uniform.

9. Los Angeles Clippers

Again, they have arguably the worst regular uniform scheme in all of basketball, so they’ve already dug themselves a hole. Unfortunately, although the Christmas jerseys are a million times better than their normal ones, they’re not good enough. The lack of striping makes the jersey super boring, but the lettering looks pretty darn good on them. Maybe Ballmer should take notes.

8. Oklahoma City Thunder

I have the same problems with the Thunder’s uniform as I do with the Pelicans’. OKC has a better base jersey, but not by much.

7. Miami Heat

I like the swirly, oversized lettering on the Heat’s jersey but the rest of the jersey seems a little bland and boring.

6. Houston Rockets

This is where the list really starts to venture into the ‘good’ category. I like Rockets jersey, I just think it’s the worst of a really good bunch. I get why they kept the collar and striping from the base jersey, but the modern design looks a bit strange on uniforms that are going for a retro feel.

5. Cleveland Cavaliers

Although it’s not overly flashy or exciting, the Cavs uniform is simple and awesome. The triple stripe works really, really well and helps hammer home the old-school feel.

4. Golden State Warriors

The Warriors blue really pops and helps their uniform stand out from the rest of the group. I wish they had stuck with a version of their circular logo on the chest but, alas, they did not. However, the bridge/cable design on the shorts looks great.

3. Los Angeles Lakers

Like the Heat, the Lakers have some oversized lettering that works great. My only real complaint about the uniform is that it’s too purple and, thus, almost seems like more of a Sacramento Kings jersey. If they could have incorporated a touch of yellow, this might be my favorite.

2. Chicago Bulls

Personally, I believe the Bulls have some of the best uniforms in basketball and this Christmas getup maintains many of the great qualities the everyday uni possess, including the great shorts. The only big change on the jersey is the holiday font, and that’s pretty great as well.

1. San Antonio Spurs

I don’t really feel strongly about the Spurs regular uniforms, so it’s a bit surprising that I find myself loving their Christmas jersey as much as I do. The oversized font works really well and the silver is a subtle but wonderful accent to the cream jersey. It’s perfectly simplistic and retro, which is what the NBA was going for with these. None pull it off better than the Spurs.
