adidas Partners With Twitter To Allow Us To Buy Sneakers Much Easier

adidas-originals-2_gz220u

Twitter has just announced a new feature that will make it easier for retailers to sell their products via the social media outlet.

One of those major retailers that will be taking part in this program will be none other than adidas. Adidas has yet to make any of their products available through the “Buy It Now” feature, but a company by the name of Brit+Co has already gotten the party started.
Screen_Shot_2015-09-30_at_9.47.13_AMManaging Editor of adidas’ Newsroom Chris Murphy commented on what this new feature from their partnership with Twitter means:

“We’ve been a long time partner of Twitter and this is the latest step in working together to innovate our social shopping and commerce experience,” We will continue to work with Twitter to lead the social and digital conversation with a focused pursuit of seamless shopping.”

What type of products do you think we’ll be seeing adidas release on this new Twitter feature?

Sometimes all we need is a boot for Fall. The adidas Spezial Mounfield is coming to us with the perfect look for Autumn weather, both is structure and in color.

The boot-like build and extra-traction outsole makes for a great grab for both Fall and Winter. The upper, draped in a light brown hue and then wrapped in a darker tone. If you’re interested in the adidas Spezial Mounfield, all you’ve got to do is hit up your local adidas retailer.

Did Michael Jordan Almost Leave Nike For adidas!

Sneaker Freaker

Sneaker Freaker

A new and interesting Michael Jordan story coming from Sonny Vaccaro just broke out. Sonny Vaccaro is a big name in the sports footwear industry who has worked for both Nike and adidas. Vaccaro has recently said that Michael Jordan once had a meeting with adidas (while being signed to Nike) about perhaps jumping ship by leaving his Nike deal in favor of a deal with adidas.

Vaccaro is said to be an important figure when it came to bringing Jordan to Nike, and in a recent USA Today article, Vaccaro states that he accompanied Jordan during a meeting with adidas that was about him making the switch. The meeting was with Rob Strasser and Peter Moore who were two former executives that were involved in the early phases of the Air Jordan line that eventually ended up leaving Nike in 1987 to work with adidas. Although Vaccaro does not go into detail in regards to what was talked about in the meeting, he only states that it happened after the departure of Strasser and Moore from Nike. This could easily be true because Jordan made it known that he was not happy with how his signature line was going with Nike. One thing worth mentioning is that all this happened before Tinker Hatfield began taking part in designing Jordan’s sneakers, beginning with the Air Jordan 3!

Can you imagine what the sneaker culture would be like if Jordan was in fact close to trading in his Nikes for a pair of adidas? I guess we will never know, huh?

What if…Damn. I don’t even want to think about it. Let’s just keep in moving.

Skechers Takes The Number 2 Spot Away From adidas, Becoming Second-Largest Athletic Footwear Brand in America

Skechers 1Well all know Nike is the number one athletic footwear brand in America, and for quite some time now adidas would always be second. That just changed, and no I don’t mean adidas took the number one spot, I mean adidas lost their number two spot. They did not lose it to New Balance, Reebok, Puma or Asics, they actually lost the spot to Skechers! In other words, Skechers is now the number 2 largest athletic footwear brand in America. Let the sink in for a minute. I didn’t see this coming, at least this soon.

Business Insider just reported the news stating that Skechers’ 2015 second-quarter net sales experienced an increase of 36.4% – “an almost unheard-of number in retail.” Nike may still have the majority share at 62% of the market, but I can’t say I’m not surprised Skechers is making a name for themselves in the footwear game. For the longest time, we’ve always seen Skechers as uncool and unhip, but it looks like the financial numbers say otherwise. Skechers makes good use of their advertising by focusing and targeting families and children. The use of family-friendly stars such as Demi Lovato and Meghan Trainor are also essential in their marketing campaign. Will they one day be capable of taking number one spot? For now it looks to be unlikely, but then again I never thought they would be in front of adidas either, so what do I know.

adidas Originals Tubular Runner “Triple Onyx” – You Like?

image image image image image

The Tubular is too cool for school. We’ve seen a number of monochromatic looks and two-toned designs, but it’s the adidas Originals Tubular Runner “Triple Onyx” that is stealing our attention.

The adidas Originals Tubular Runner “Triple Onyx” features a neoprene inner-sock, taped panels and leather eyestays and heel. Grey hits the entire upper and midsole, making these a one color wonder. Hit up your local adidas retailer today if you’re interested in copping.

Author’s Take

Too bland. I’m already slightly opposed to monochromatic releases, but if the chosen color is this bland it’s a definite no.

Phil Knight Says That Nike Is Worried About Competition From Under Armour and adidas

Phil Knight Says Nike Is Still Worried About the Competition

We all know that Nike dominates U.S. and global sales. Want some proof? Well how about selling $8.4 million worth of merchandise last quarter alone?

But just because they’re the best at what they do doesn’t mean that they’re not aware of their competition. In a recent interview with USA Today, Nike co-founder Phil Knight acknowledged that Nike does indeed worry about its competitors.

“The industry has changed enormously,” Knight said. “I’ll just say it’s grown and the companies that are in the industry are in more different areas than ever before. So Under Armour is a very serious competitor, but Adidas is the next biggest and they’ve got a lot of money to spend and they have a lot of capability. We worry about them all. And it isn’t just shoes. In golf, we compete against Titleist. In women’s athletic gear, we compete against Lululemon, so we worry about them all.”

I think this is a sign of respect by Knight and Nike to acknowledge the strides that brands like Under Armour and adidas have been making lately.

What do you think? Does Nike have anything to worry about?

Nike Tennis Classic AC – Game, Set, Match

Who’ down for the Nike Tennis Classic? I can’t help but draw comparisons to the adidas Originals Stan Smith, but I think this might have one up on our friend with the three stripes. Just maybe.

This time around, we’re checking out the Nike Tennis Classic in an all white upper with light blue accents along the heel and tongue branding. Are you more into the Stan Smith or are you interested in copping these? Hit up your local Nike retailer if you are.

Author’s Take

Personally, I still say the Stan Smith takes the cake. But I’m still a fan of these, I just rock hard with the three stripes.

Wizards Unveil New ‘Baltimore Pride’ Uniforms

As if our Kicks 18 cover star John Wall didn’t have enough swag already. The Wizards just revealed new Baltimore Pride uniforms, which pay homage to the old school Baltimore Bullets. They plan to rock these alternates for six select games this upcoming season. Take a look:

Here’s more from Wizards Today:

The Washington Wizards will celebrate their special relationship with the city of Baltimore by wearing Baltimore Pride uniforms for six select games during the season. The uniform pays homage to the uniform worn by the Baltimore Bullets from 1969-73, updating the color scheme to the Wizards’ current red, white and blue.

The Wizards will also honor the organization’s proud past with the addition of a display featuring all of the uniforms in franchise history. A narrative highlighting historical facts and pictures will also be included. Fans will have their first chance to see the new display at the Wizards’ preseason game on Oct. 6 against the Philadelphia 76ers. The display will be located on the concourse outside of section 112.

The Wizards franchise called Charm City home beginning in 1963, playing as the Bullets at the Baltimore Civic Center and featuring future Hall of Famers Walt Bellamy and Gus Johnson. Fellow Hall of Famers Earl Monroe (1967-71), Wes Unseld (1968-73) and Elvin Hayes (1972-73) also were part of the Baltimore franchise before the team relocated to Landover, Md., prior to the 1973-74 season.

adidas Spezial “Kirkdale” – Is This Your Style?

image image image image image image image image image

Never underestimate the good works of the adidas Spezial silhouette. Though this rendition is slightly muted, it’s never a bad thing to have something that is versatile in the line-up.

The upper trades off between white and blue-grey hues, alternating from mesh to suede, respectively. The light beige midsole helps complete the design. If you’re interested in copping the adidas Spezial “Kirkdale”, hit up your local adidas retailer today.

Author’s Take

Not at all my taste. The colorway, in my opinion, leaves a little more to be desired.

Raf Simons x adidas Originals Response Trail Robot

After previously taking on the likes of the Ozweego 2 and Stan Smith, Raf Simons has customized yet another adidas silhouette, this time giving the Response Trail a makeover to create the Response Trail Robot. Taking cues from NASA's astronaut suits, the design employs leather and mesh paneling throughout, coupling a predominately white look with an adiprene+ midsole, silver accents and red and blue hardware.

The robotic Response Trail is available now from adidas Originals retailers like Packer Shoes for $550 USD.

Rapid Fire Q+A: John Wall (VIDEO)

If you know anything about Wizards superstar John Wall, then you probably know about his tight-knit group of close friends for life known as the 5 Deep crew—that’s Wall, Ty Williams, Reggie Jackson, EJ (Eric Grissett, Jr.) and Alban “Bane” Okafor. So who better to lob some questions at the KICKS 18 cover star than one of his longtime homies? Ty sat down with John recently in Beverly Hills to do some rapid fire questions (shouts to our SLAM Draft Suite for setting the precedent, ha). Watch the video above, courtesy of Red Bull.

Here are all the questions Wall answers in the video, so you can follow along:

The NBA Impersonator Took On Shaq, And The Big Man Thought It Was ‘Pretty Funny’

James Harden, Stephen Curry and Anthony Davis have all had their moments (and DeAndre Jordan had his emojis), but with training camps starting up, we can call it: The winner of the offseason has been BdotAdot5, the NBA impersonator. He came into our lives with a killer Russell Westbrook impersonation (which is, for my money, still his best work) and has been adding to his body of work all summer.

Now it’s autumn, and Bdot has taken on one of the most unique, iconic personages ever to grace the game — Shaquille O’Neal. His take on Shaq’s destruction of Chris Dudley is predictably amazing, as is his Shaq run, and this time — like with Russ — Bdot got respect from the target of his parody:

Shaq wisely chose the viewpoint that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and Bdot videos are mostly representative of that — with Joey Crawford and Carmelo Anthony being notable exceptions. With the season now finally, thankfully, around the corner, there’s no reason for Bdot to stop now, especially with Metta World Peace back in the league and the possibility JaVale McGee actually gets minutes for the Dallas Mavericks. The NBA is still ripe for parody, so let’s hope Bdot keeps them coming.
