The Clippers introduce San Diego-styled powder blue (sadly sleeved) alternate jerseys (Photos)

The Los Angeles Clippers are calling back to the San San Diegan (San Dieigan? San Diagon?) heritage, and introducing light blue throwback jerseys for the 2013-14 NBA season. The jerseys look fantastic, color is on point, the side features flags with a nautical theme and there’s absolutely no way the Clippers could screw this up outside of … yeah, they screwed them up.

The Clippers put sleeves on the jerseys. At least 90 percent of the new jerseys look great. From the team’s website:

Designed by adidas, the uniforms are inspired by heritage of the Clippers organization and the Nautical culture of the southern California area. The “Back in Blue” uniform features light blue color for the first time since the team was based in San Diego. Light blue has a rich history with the organization and has been a part of the team’s identity since they were the Buffalo Braves in the 1970’s. The lightweight woven shorts feature three iconic nautical flags to represent each of the team’s letters – L-A-C- to stand for Los Angeles Clippers.

Here’s a look at the Sunday jersey:

adidas D Rose 4 "Brenda"

Not only does a red/black/white color combination perfectly reflect the look of his hometown NBA squad, but a bright red look also happens to be the favorite color of Derrick Rose's mom, Brenda. Thus, adidas continues its long-running "Brenda" installments of Rose's signature footwear with a corresponding edition of the newly-unveiled adidas D Rose 4. Pairing a red synthetic leather front half with a glossy motif to represent the layers of Rose's family, the kicks see a contrasting back half with both the GEOFIT collar and SPRINTFRAME done up in black. As always, the Chicago Bulls point guard's distinctive logo adorns both the tongue and collar. The adidas D Rose 4 "Brenda" is set to drop October 10 for $140 USD at adidas Basketball stockists across the globe.

Heat or Hype: What retro sneakers are overrated or underrated?

Wow, Drake. That's an impressive Jordan retro collection. I haven't seen one of those since... this morning from one of our followers on the KoF Twitter.

Wow, Drake. That’s an impressive Jordan retro collection. I haven’t seen one of those since… this morning from one of our followers on the KoF Twitter.

Retros, retros, retros. Somewhere along the way the sneakerhead community (ok, the vocal ones that love to front on social media) abandoned the chase for the latest in design and technology and decided that they were going to plant their flag in the 90s and say “nah, we’re done.”

Many say the tipping point for the retro craze becoming the dominant force came when the Air Jordan 11 “Concord” dropped in late 2011 and we’ve been living a fever dream of buying the same shoes again and again since. That’s not to say the whole retro phenomenon has been a bad thing, however. Thanks to the renewed interest in the most popular kicks from the past, we’ve seen companies dig deep into their archives hoping to find the next big hit, put together new and exciting colorways for old favorites and given us a reason to care about names like Shawn Kemp, Shaquille O’Neal, Grant Hill and Antoine “dammit, stop shooting” Walker again now that they have a second life of relevance.

But let’s also be real, not every retro is created equal. In fact, some of the retros that have dropped this year weren’t even that popular when they first came out. So for this week’s edition of Heat or Hype, here are some of the more notable signature (well, mostly signature) retros to drop this year and we want to know whether you think their popularity is deserved (properly rated), undeserved (overrated) or could use some more love (underrated).
