The Golden State Warriors are currently on a run to history. With an 11-0 start, the defending champs are inching closer to the best start in NBA history – 15-0 by the Houston Rockets in 1993 – and talk is already starting to bubble about the Warriors possibly going for the regular season gold standard, the 72-10 mark posted by the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls. Of course, anybody who suggested that was immediately hit by stans of all kinds. Jordan stans, Bulls stans, ’90s basketball stans and more. Even Ron Harper got in on the action and boldly declared that his squad would sweep – before amending it later to a 4-2 win – this Warriors squad if they ever faced off.
As somebody who was grew up in the ’80s and ’90s and will occasionally yearn for those times in silent, nothing is more annoying than seeing people my age yearn for the old days out loud. It’s the kind of discussions that fuel sports radio and decrepit old curmudgeons who can’t get over the fact that time has passed them by and they didn’t bother to go along for the ride. Hours are wasted on social media and blogs (present company included) about things that can never be resolved because it is impossible to go back in time and get that legendary Bulls team to play this current Warriors squad. Unless you count video games, which we are for the purposes of this experiment.
In this edition of NBA 2K16 Kicks, we take a look at what would happen if today’s Warriors that is currently 11-0 had to take on the Jordan-led Bulls that just beat the Seattle Supersonics for the championship. Imagine the look on MJ’s face when he realizes he’s guarding Dell Curry’s kid that’s wearing some foreign shoe called the Under Armour Curry Two. What would Harrison Barnes think about being assigned to Scottie Pippen? Will Draymond Green or Dennis Rodman throw the first punch? Does the world just go into a permanent Inception-like loop when young Steve Kerr sees old Steve Kerr? The video game will decide all of those things, but what we really want to see is what today’s kicks would look like next to the Bulls of the past. Unfortunately, kicks like the Nike Air Max Uptempo, the Nike Air More Uptempo and the Nike Air Way Up did not make it to 2K16, so we had to settle for everybody wearing Air Jordans, which did happen for the most part.
