Why Athletic Brands Are Now More Popular Than Fast Fashion

According to a report by Polyvore, in conjunction with Yahoo, Tumblr and Flickr, the top three most-searched brands this year were Nike, adidas and Givenchy. Fickle consumers had chosen the likes of Topshop, H&M and Forever 21 for its top three just a year ago, so why the sudden change in favor of athletic-oriented brands? Polyvore Fashion Editor Amy Wicks likened this skew in trends to the popularity of athleisure and high-low dressing. These two trends dominated 2015, and the searches are likely a result of that instead of a sudden turn away from fast fashion. “I think it shows they were infusing their wardrobes with affordable things and then also willing to splurge on Chanel and Givenchy, which is definitely what we saw last year,” Wicks said. Polyvore's predominantly millennial audience surely affected the results as well, but needless to say, athletic and sportswear brands are here to stay and are definitely not only for sports.
