Toy Story 7: Our Sole Expression

Toy Story” is a recurring series focusing on the trinkets, knick-knacks and ancillary collectibles which reinforce our passion for sneakers. In earlier installments we’ve looked at Bowen Collectibles, Transformers, FigurinesBobbleheads, art and MediCom figures. Today, we’ll take a look at perhaps our most intellectual collectible to date, books.

Let’s face it; in today’s microwave society, we want everything fast, quick and easy. In “Fight Club”, Edward Norton makes mention of a “single serving” life. One and done.

Social media has made us accustomed to getting our information 140 characters at a time. And even then, if it links us to a more lengthy article, we favorite it, WANTING to read it, then waver at whether to ACTUALLY read it or not. Our favorite blogs and online magazines are sure to include content which captivates us but at the same time is not too overwhelming which could discourage a click.

We’re getting all of our news on our phones anymore as we scroll through Twitter, Facebook and Instagram and watch one Snap story after another. But there have been some outstanding books (Remember them? Those creations with words printed on paper and bound with a nice cover?) documenting the sneaker industry and the players who have surrounded it. Some of which you may have seen, some not.

If you’re able to grab yourself away from your own single serving, microwave life, maybe you want to ask whomever your Santa Claus is, for some of these reads… and in the meantime, establish a positive looking sneaker library that isn’t just back issues of SLAM or KICKS.

Just Do It.

I’ll be honest, I am guilty of my own microwave, single serving life. I have many of these books, yet in my rush to to get to whatever is next in my life, I haven’t picked most of them up to read. In 26 days we start a new year. It’s a time when many resolve to do one thing or another. Pick up a few of these over the holiday. Check out your book store or Amazon, expand your horizons about the culture you’re in beyond a colorway and release date and understand just how you got here.

I know I’m gonna…
