Remember last year when Damian Lillard showed off his signature shoe for the first time on Instagram with little warning or hint that it might happen? Granted, word was buzzing that a signature was on the way but Dame beat the sneaky sneaker blogs to the punch by showing his first kicks ahead of everybody else. And he’s doing it again, but this time he’s taking a more direct approach and showing off the adidas D Lillard 2 on the court during pregame warm-ups last night.
For those who weren’t feeling the D Lillard 1 (I thought they were great personally), they’ll be glad to know the sequel changes things up in a lot of ways. First is the move from a low-cut to mid which definitely gives it the appearance of a performance basketball shoe whereas the Lillard 1 looked like it could have come out of adidas Originals. There appear to be various materials used on the upper with a breathable medial panel that may or may not be Primeknit and a nubuck/suede overlay. The heel counter will now both feature the great D Lillard logo, a welcome change from last year when one shoe had a giant adidas logo that looked out of place. However, the three stripes doesn’t disappear completely as they show up on the tongue in a move looks very similar to the adidas Crazylight Boost 2015. And this particular version does not have Boost, opting instead for a chunkier look with a white and gum finish. Earlier leaks of the D Lillard 2 came in both Boost and no Boost flavors which means we might see multiple configurations during its life cycle.
Of course, more colorways will come that will change our perception of the shoe, but it appears like Dame and adidas are looking to make the shoe more suited for playing than styling. What are your thoughts on the D Lillard 2 so far? Let us know in the comments.
