Bowling Green University Ditches The Three Stripes For The Swoosh

Bowling Green

Add another University to the list of schools that have chosen Nike over Adidas. Bowling Green University recently announced that they have parted ways with Adidas and have inked a new deal with Nike that will become effective in 2015. The University of Tennessee recently announced that they were also leaving Adidas for Nike along with Notre Dame who decided to drop Adidas and sign with Under Armour.

Under their deal with Adidas Bowling Green was receiving $90,000 in footwear and apparel annually along with the right to purchase additional products at 50 percent off retail prices. Athletic Director Chris Kingston said that the deal with Nike “will be two times more lucrative than the deal with our previous supplier.” This means that Nike will be giving the university upward of $180,000 annually with some other perks as well.

While Adidas still outfits several major teams including UCLA and the University of Michigan, it is apparent that they are losing many of their programs to Nike and Under Armour which can only spell trouble for the branding and exposure of the Three Stripes.
