10 Great Kicks You’re Missing Out On Because They’re “Only” General Releases

IMG_7079

Sneakers come and sneakers go, but there are those that come and don’t go anywhere. It might be months between your visits to your local sneaker establishments (I know for some of you it’s only days so bear with me), but you’ll see the same pairs just sitting there hoping to be bought by some sneakerhead who missed out on something they really wanted and can’t help but buy a consolation pair or casual fans who are just waiting for that price to drop down to something a little more agreeable. They’ll eventually be on somebody’s feet; all it takes is some time.

“General releases” get a bad rap in the sneaker community because they are just that, general releases. A lot of you don’t want to admit it (“wear what you like” is both the best and most hypocritical piece of advice you’ll ever get from a sneakerhead), but when you’re wearing a sneaker that anybody from a kid to a grandparent can buy, it takes away some of the luster, regardless of how great they actually look. You can’t tell me that you haven’t bought a pair of kicks and then come back to that same store a week or two later hoping that it’s gone and it justified your purchase.

However, in time you’ll hit that moment in your life where you’ll either continue to care about always wearing “heat” out in public or just putting on whatever suits you at that moment. Once you get over that hump of caring about the difference between “general release” and “quickstrike”, you can get to the business of wearing dope kicks that you don’t have to get in line for. It’s a beautiful place and you’ll probably save a dollar or a thousand over the long run.

With the new season about to hit us with some fresh styles and colorways to fawn over, here are some kicks you might want to consider picking up before they move on to that big orange outlet store in the sky (or boonies). They won’t get you a thousand likes on Instagram, but these are still excellent in their own way and have the potential to be classics in time. You might not find them at every store or online necessarily, but they aren’t going to have you dialing your connects to get them either.

Nike Flyknit Lunar 1+ “Multicolor”

I guess the words “Multicolor” only sells out when it’s on a Flyknit Racer or if it has the “HTM” initials on them. These has been languishing on stores for quite some time now and Nike has finally relented and dropped the price on them at least on their online store. Now granted, you could dip this shoe in a bowl of Fruity Pebbles and you wouldn’t know where the shoe ends and cereals begin, but that’s kind of the point of a “Multicolor” Flyknit. These have a chance to earn cult favorite status once they break the mythical $100 barrier, which will happen if Nike can’t sell them for $130.
