Here’s a common misconception that sneakerheads have about people in the media: bloggers have a direct line with brands and have access to any pair that they want at any time. While that might be true of actual celebrities and athletes, our standing in the “get free stuff in the mail” totem pole doesn’t allow us to swim in “Gamma Blue” Jordans (either 11 or 12) on a whim. That doesn’t mean we the job doesn’t have perks, however. At times we are allowed to sneak a peek at the latest kicks (because they don’t really need to advertise retros all that much) that are set to drop and get a chance to talk to the designers and athletes behind the products. While we are always appreciative of anything that comes our way, they don’t always rate high on the hypebeast meter; but then again if you were looking to get into this line of work for the free swag, you might want to reevaluate your priorities.
