KoF Insiders: Harrison Barnes and Kenneth Faried talk new adidas CrazyGhost, Mutombo retro

DSC_2671 (800x536)On a beautiful Thursday afternoon inside the Bren Center in UC Irvine, the future of adidas Performance was being televised. Well, it won’t actually be televised until later this year, but we were fortunate enough to be invited by the Three Stripes to check out the shooting of the adidas CrazyGhost commercial for Dick’s Sporting Goods featuring two of the NBA’s young stars in Harrison Barnes and Kenneth Faried.


A lot of work goes into a 3o-second spot and what seems like easy work for Barnes and Faried (well, it’s relatively easy compared to the guys who were shooting the video, I guess) is actually an all-day affair with shots being taken at multiple angles and new ideas that pop up out of the creative mind of Harmony Korine (yup, the Kids and Spring Breakers director) that give you the impression that might be more than your typical shoot.


In between takes, we had a chance to talk with Barnes and Faried separately about their relationship with adidas, what they think about the brand moving forward, the current push that retros are getting and if they have any interest in the upcoming adidas Mutombos that are set to drop tomorrow.

On their thoughts about the commercial (which we can’t talk about too much because embargoes), which was the first for both of them:



Harrison Barnes: This was actually my very first time shooting a commercial, so it was cool to see how the director operates and the guys on the set, how they go about their business and how the shoot looks afterwards. I had a lot of fun today.


Kenneth Faried: I’m excited, definitely an exciting time for me. Usually people who deserve these type of things are the guys who get plenty of recognition, so I’m glad to get this kind of recognition.
