NBA Kicks: John Wall, LeBron James, Blake Griffin Shine During Emotional Night

2014 - December 8 - Cover

NBA nights in December are typically uneventful affairs unless it’s the Christmas Day games, but Monday was a very rare and very emotional exception. If this were a regular NBA Kicks recap, we would highlight Blake Griffin and his Jordan Super.Fly 3 because of his monster 45-point outing that included one of the luckiest game-winning shots you will ever see…

But the night also belonged to members of the Brooklyn Nets and Cleveland Cavaliers – including LeBron James – who wore “I Can’t Breathe” t-shirts prior to gametime as a show of support for the family of Eric Garner. Oh, and the Royal Family happened to be in attendance as well to watch their very first NBA game. Sadly, they did not meet up with Dion Waiters.

While the players on the Nets and Cavs were speaking out on issues bigger than the game, John Wall put everything he had into his game as he dedicated his performance to a young friend who just passed away due to cancer. If you can get through this video without getting misty-eyed, I’m not sure you’re human. And on a side note, John Wall became everybody’s favorite NBA player.

Sure, there were plenty of noteworthy kicks last night like LeBron wearing another PE of his signature kicks, Kyrie wearing a NIKEiD version of the Kyrie before switching to his regular gamers, Eric Bledsoe recording his first triple-double in some Js and much more. But it seems like this night was a little bit bigger than just any another day in the NBA, you know?
