Top 10 Kicks Of 2014 So Far

Six months have passed in 2014 and sneakers sure are in a weird, but good place. Sure, retros still dominate the landscape and a certain segment of the population act like nothing else matters, but we are slowly starting to see and feel the winds of change. Variety is starting to become a thing again as sneakerheads who have become disillusioned with seeing the same crap over and over again on their Instagram feeds are starting to branch out and try new kicks and brands, much to the delight of the Asics and New Balances of the world. Meanwhile, fans and blogs are starting to ask more questions and demand answers instead of just accepting the corporate line and dropping new colorways to shut us up. It’s a slow burn to be sure because for every sneakerhead that branches out there is another two or three ready to camp out in an effort to be one of the cool kids, but there is a revolution brewing. We just have to keep pushing and no, not just for “better quality” retros or something dumb like that.


You can feel it from our countdown of the Top 10 Kicks Of 2014 So Far that change is inevitable. Foamposites are no longer easy money like they once were, adidas has two entries on the list and we only mentioned Kanye once (ok, make it twice since this would be the first). There are still retros on the list but their inclusion is well-deserved for once and not just fueled by baseless hype that deems them important just because they’re old. Maybe sneakerheads are growing up? The second half of 2014 has a lot to live up to…
