NBA Kicks Weekend: Timofey Mozgov is emancipated by Rudy Gay and the Air Jordan 6

Guess who won?

Guess who won?

Remember Frédéric Weis, the European (read: French) center that Vince Carter (and in a small way, the New York Knicks since they drafted him) made famous back during the 2000 Olympics? Carter essentially ruined his career before it even started in America with that dunk, which is now a Youtube staple and more than likely introduced few kids around the world to a certain Geto Boys classic (NSFW warning because dude, Geto Boys).

Fast forward to ten years later and Timofey Mozgov, another European (read: Russian) center became an internet sensation thanks to another high flyer who goes by the name of Blake Griffin. Ironically, the New York Knicks were also involved in this embarrassment since Mozgov was on their team at the time of the vicious slam.

Unfortunately for Weis, he never got a chance to redeem himself as he never played a single minute in the NBA and for a while there, we all assumed that Mozgov would suffer the same fate. That was until this past weekend when this weird convergence of European center/Knicks ineptitude/NBA guy from Canada came full circle when Rudy Gay attempted to slam one home against Mozgov in the Air Jordan 6. But instead of a GIF of Gay getting headliner status here, we got this instead…

And with that, the curse of “European center getting dunked on” has been lifted. Sadly (or hilariously depending on how you look at it), the New York Knicks curse of ineptitude continues…
