NBA Kicks: Nick Young debuts new purple and gold Nike Kobe 8 “Black History Month” on MLK Day

2014 - MLK - 29dWhen Nike’s Black History Month collection for 2014 was revealed earlier this month, one of the most discussed kicks was the one that was not there: Kobe Bryant’s signature shoe. Between the revelation that the Nike Kobe 9 Elite would first drop in February and the Nike Kobe 8 continuing to drop new colorways at retail, there was plenty of speculation as to whether or not we were going to see a “Black History Month” colorway of any Kobe signature shoe. Once this year’s collection was unveiled, that led many to assume that there wouldn’t be a Kobe representative this year.

Leave it to Nick Young to put all that talk to rest when he rocked a Sport Royalty – this year’s BHM theme – colorway of the Nike Kobe 8. With a purple, gold and black upper that features the same graphics found on the Nike KD 6 and Nike LeBron 11 “BHM” colorways, Young put on his best Black Mamba impersonation when he nearly beat the Chicago Bulls seemingly on his own on MLK day.
