NBA Kicks: Nick Young debuts new purple and gold Nike Kobe 8 “Black History Month” on MLK Day

When Nike’s Black History Month collection for 2014 was revealed earlier this month, one of the most discussed kicks was the one that was not there: Kobe Bryant’s signature shoe. Between the revelation that the Nike Kobe 9 Elite would first drop in February and the Nike Kobe 8 continuing to drop new colorways at retail, there was plenty of speculation as to whether or not we were going to see a “Black History Month” colorway of any Kobe signature shoe. Once this year’s collection was unveiled, that led many to assume that there wouldn’t be a Kobe representative this year.

Leave it to Nick Young to put all that talk to rest when he rocked a Sport Royalty – this year’s BHM theme – colorway of the Nike Kobe 8. With a purple, gold and black upper that features the same graphics found on the Nike KD 6 and Nike LeBron 11 “BHM” colorways, Young put on his best Black Mamba impersonation when he nearly beat the Chicago Bulls seemingly on his own on MLK day.
