Back in the old days, all you needed to prove that you were a passionate supporter of San Antonio Spurs reserve sharpshooter Matt Bonner were some "Napoleon Dynamite" jokes, a few hashtags, a love of sandwiches and a fashion-forward approach to hairstyles. These days, though, you've got to trade in your New Balances for some new Crazy 8s and, it seems, spend a few hours in a tattoo artist's chair:
Yep: That's "The Red Rocket," a.k.a. "The Sandwich Hunter," a.k.a. "The Red Mamba," a.k.a. "Coach B," immortalized casting off from long-range in ink on the skin of a gentleman whom Bonner's younger brother Luke — who co-founded the nonprofit Rock On Foundation with his big bro — says is "a Concord, N.H., legend, who's now a barber in southern Florida." (The Bonners hail from Concord, as you surely already know.)
Here's more on our Bonner-inked barber, via Luke:
He has a unique style, including multiple tattoos of some of his high school friends. I guess he had been wanting to get a tattoo of Matt, but didn't know what to get. Coincidentally, I sent out a group text to a link of an anime drawing of Matt that someone posted to Twitter, and that apparently served as inspiration. He actually got the tattoo. I'm hoping he gets a tattoo of me next as my finder's fee. As you can imagine, he's a pretty interesting character. His claim to fame is that he's cut Dennis Rodman's hair. Well, apparently that, and having a pretty sweet Matt Bonner tattoo.
"As you can imagine, he's a pretty interesting character." Well, yeah — to join the ranks of the NBA-tattooed elite, he must be.
Intrepid Spurs beat reporter Dan McCarney of the San Antonio Express-News reached out to the San Antonio big man for an official comment on the matter:
Bonner's comment: "Wicked awesome."

Yeah, that about sums it up.
